"My previous album, Nine Spells, was a doorway to the women who came before me—my ancestors—allowing me to hear their voices and understand their struggles," says Moletta. "The entire process, both musically and visually, became a form of healing, a way to reclaim what was lost. But as I uncovered these powerful connections, I realized the journey had only just begun."
In her quest to explore deeper connections to her roots, Moletta sought to go beyond her personal history and reach into something more universal. She turned to the underground, the caves, and the hidden places where dreams, spirituality, and art converge. Over the course of eight months, Moletta explored the mountains and sea caves of Piedmont and Liguria, regions of Italy that have long inspired artists and seekers alike.
"The landscape I encountered was unlike anything I'd ever seen on our planet’s surface. It actually felt like being on another planet," Moletta reflects. "It was as though I had entered a sacred and secret space, far from the anxieties and worries of our modern world. Some of these caves have taken millions of years to form. There hasn't been much change in these spaces since our ancestors explored them thousands of years ago."
Throughout her time in these ancient caves, Moletta captured field recordings, took photographs, drew, and filmed. She also composed and performed original melodies inspired by each location, adding a deeply personal touch to her immersive experience.
In early 2025, Moletta returned to a few of the caves she had first explored, this time with a camera in hand, to create a short documentary. "My goal with this film is to take the audience on a journey, allowing them to experience the awe and beauty of these natural spaces," says Moletta. "I hope to share the magic and emotions I felt while creating the album. Conveying the power and beauty of these ancient spaces through a screen is no easy feat, but I hope to spark curiosity in others and inspire them to begin their own exploration—an inner journey of their own."
Through her art and music, Moletta aims to awaken a profound connection with nature, breaking free from the limiting narratives of division and fear that dominate our world. "Caves are the birthplace of spirituality and art, and I believe that by immersing ourselves in these ancient spaces, we can reconnect to the primordial creative roots of humanity," she explains.
With this new project, Jolanda Moletta invites audiences to join her on a transformative journey—one that explores the profound power of nature, spirituality, and the arts. The combination of music and visual elements promises to offer a unique and immersive experience that bridges the gap between the ancient and the modern.
NIGHT CAVES
Night Caves is a transformative album that delves deep into themes of ancestry, nature, and inner exploration. Through field recordings and vocal performances captured inside ancient sea and mountain caves in Italy, Jolanda forged a profound connection between her music and the land, weaving a sonic narrative of healing, self-discovery, and belonging.
Caves, as symbols of the unconscious, serve as the album’s central motif. Jolanda describes them as sanctuaries for humanity, offering insights into ancient spirituality and creative expression. In these spaces she confronted her own shadow-self, fears, and hidden treasures, ultimately rediscovering the creative fire within. The album’s artwork features photos of these caves, interwoven with black-and-white self-portraits which reflect the duality of light and shadow, serving as portals to the inner and outer worlds. Jolanda's art bridges these realms, inviting listeners to explore their own subconscious and creative potential.
At the heart of Night Caves lies Jolanda’s artistic philosophy. She describes her work as Sonic and Visual Spells, which connect the audience to their own intuition and inner world. Drawing inspiration from archetypes and shared cultural symbols, Jolanda’s creations transcend the boundaries of time, space, and tradition. Her holistic approach integrates music, imagery, and symbolism to craft immersive experiences that inspire transformation. The human voice, she believes, is a bridge between the visible and the invisible, with the power to evoke emotions, spark imagination, and connect listeners to their deeper selves.
